bulletWhat extraction tool do you use?
This question is the first question to ask simply because it is 500 times easier to physically remove water than it is to evaporate it. If your contractor is not using the right extraction tool, chances are they are pulling a lot of carpet and pad that they don't have to.

The follow up question, "When?" is necessary because different extraction tools perform differently on different types of carpet and pad.

For Example:

A self-propelled unit (Hydro-X) will outperform any other tool on carpet and pad, but performs poorly on commercial, glue down and hard surfaces. (Due to the fact that there must be a vacuum seal around the tool's intake for suction.) On commercial carpets, glue downs, and hard surfaces, a wand or squeegee wand will produce the best results. (The RX-20 rotary extractor is also effective for times when covering a large area.)

The Facts:

A Hydro-X (Self-Propelled) is the best tool for removing water from carpet and pad.

Second is a stationary tool (The Water Claw) but it MUST be followed up with a wand to remove the water from the top of the carpet.

For Glued Down and Commercial carpet with pad backing, a Wand or Rotary extractor produces the best results.

For Hard surfaces, a wand or squeegee wand will suffice.
