This Question Is CRITICAL! All
Truck Mounted Units Are Not Created Equal!
The Vortex Drying
System, in order to be utilized, requires that contractors not only have the right
extraction tools, but also the proper truck mount to put them to use.
There are two items of concern when addressing truck mounts / blowers:
1) Airflow (CFM)
2) and Fittings
AIRFLOW
A recommended truck mount must deliver
at least 400 cfm of airflow. Because you lose CFM whenever you hook up a hose to a truck
(50 cfm lost for every 50 feet of hose) it is necessary to start with at least 400 CFM.
Because a 2" hose will only allow 450 CFM to pass through it,
much more than 400 is overkill, and only necessary if 2 extraction tools will be used on
the job. (Then, a minimum of 800 CFM is recommended.)
The CFM of
airflow is important because the air coming into the extraction tool must be strong
enough to pull water out of the pad and through the carpet. If you drop below 300
CFM at the point of extraction (400 CFM blower and 100 feet of hose),
you lose suction (Inches of Lift) and, therefore, leave more water behind (Adding hours,
or even days, to your drying time.)
NOTE: Your contractor should
NEVER use a "live reel" of hose when extracting. When the hose on the reel of the truck
is connected to the blower, the air must travel through all the length of hose that is
wrapped around that reel... not just the amount that they pull into the structure to
extract with.
They should pull off the reel only the length of
hose necessary for that job, then connect it to the blower.
FITTINGS
Most name-brand truck mounts come with 2" fittings all
the way through the machine.
Some cheaper models have 2"
fittings at the hose inlets, but have 1.5" fittings internally.
Because there is a 44% reduction in airflow (Constriction) when you go from a 2" to a
1.5" fitting (Anywhere in the line: Blower, Hose or Tool) It is vital that the truck
mount have 2" fittings throughout. (& that your contractor NEVER use a 1.5 inch hose or
tool!)
PORTABLE EXTRACTION UNITS
Because portable extraction units have so little CFM (The BEST has 200 CFM), the Vortex
Drying System's stance on these machines is simple: NEVER USE A PORTABLE EXTRACTION UNIT!
